The End

The dream:
It looks like an underground sewerage; filled half with slowly moving, blue, salty water. It had been long since Matt had gone for swimming. He is overwhelmed with an orgasmic ecstasy to float on the slowly moving water. He is floating down on the water stream towards a glary sunlight, which is blinding him to see what’s there at the end of the tunnel. Although it doesn’t smell good but there are few fluorescent yellow colored objects floating along with him, which is kind of aesthetic. It seems pretty weird to him, because usually it smells good which look good. The water suddenly starts moving fast, the glary sunlight getting closer and closer, He screams out “No” and the tunnel echoes with his scream.
Matt wakes up smiled! For a second he couldn’t differentiate between the dream and real. He felt like he flew across a trans-consciousness tunnel which connects dream to the reality. Yesterday was the most important day of his life; He resigned from his job and broke off with his fiancee! He flushed himself away from the society!
The flashback:
It all started when he started playing guitar again. Six months back: on a Friday afternoon he was walking by the street to meet Nicole at the Starbucks and he noticed the newly opened musical instrument store. The Gibson explorer hanging on the window caught his attention. He was staring at the guitar; it swept him away with high school nostalgic moments. He was so emerged in to his thoughts that he couldn’t realized - the store owner Bob asked him to come inside and take a look at the guitar. Bob came out of the store and pats him on the shoulder and asked him again -
“Sir, why don’t you come inside and try it out by yourself?”
“Wow! Can I do that?” Matt exclaimed!
Matt played the guitar continuously for half an hour. He was so much overwhelmed and emerged in to it that, he not only noticed, he is getting late but also he didn’t notice; Bob started playing drum with him. Matt felt he is standing in the middle of a blowy desert and playing “The November rain”-lead like Slash.
Matt had no choice but to tell the truth. He couldn’t think about an excuse after he reached the Starbucks half an hour late, carrying the guitar. After a few minutes of pause Nicole burst out with anger,
“What the fuck do you think you are doing Matt? Every fucking day I am saving for our house so that we can move in there after our wedding! You might be happy rotting in your shitty apartment, but I am not!”
Matt tried to defend
“It’s not a shitty apartment”
But her scream overpowered it,
“Even, I see things in stores which I would love to buy, but I don’t, because I care about our dream but you don’t!”
“I am so not getting laid tonight!” Matt sighed.
Since that day onwards matt played his guitar every single day wondering what happened to his high school dream of being a rock star! It didn’t bother him much that he is pissing Nicole off. All he tried to do is to understand why he started worrying about going to college and working in a “fortune 500 company” to make shitload of money to protect his financial health! It’s stupid that, he didn’t understand - it doesn’t matter how much you are making a year you are always in need of money! Days passed by, Months went by but he still couldn’t figured it out why he like to play guitar instead going to work? Why can’t Nicole be a little bit more rational? Why doesn’t he feel the urgency of things which seemed to be important before? Why does he feel so romantic all the time? He is also confused about what is the greatest invention of all time by the mankind? Music or literature!
The End:
It was yesterday, when his boss asked him: “Matt it’s been a week since I asked you to finish this report. I need it by the end of today” - He started wondering why he is bound to listen to this idiot. And at that moment it all became crystal clear to him. He realized that he was blinded by the common beliefs of the society. It’s not him who wanted to work in a Fortune listed company, it’s the society which made him to do that by mesmerized him with fake ideology. He doesn’t love Nicole; he just likes the idea of having a girlfriend. He is not living the life he wanted for himself, he is living the life which society instilled in him over the time. He was sure, it’s time to kill all the beliefs which are not his own.
Matt patiently wrote a resignation letter and then he walked calmly towards the cabin of his boss. Matt nailed the letter on the door and walked away with a taste of the ultimate joy of freedom.
